Quinoa, also called in languages originating as ‘kinwa’, is one of the crops most ancient and emblematic of Bolivia. Since ancient times, the indigenous communities that inhabit the bolivian altiplano adopted this grain as a base of power for its nutritional value, its adaptability and its resistance to the extreme conditions of the region.
Over thousands of years, the bolivian peasantry developed a deep connection with this crop, by integrating it in their culture, economy and traditional agricultural practices. The quinoa was and still is the protagonist of agricultural rites, festivities and community practices of social exchange.
The geography of the bolivian altiplano, with its high altitudes, thermal fluctuations, saline soils and low water availability, demanded the farmers ancestral develop farming systems adapted to these challenging conditions. Thanks to this knowledge passed down by generations, the quinoa was consolidated as an exceptionally sturdy.
In “Salinas de Garcí Mendoza, Bolivia, worldwide known as “the capital of the quinoa real“this grain is grown under unique conditions. The region is distinguished by the production of quinoa “high purity“ and “quality“.
